Paris Lied to Larry King

paris-hilton-larry-king.jpg

Paris Hilton told Larry King that she had never taken drugs. Now, why would she do that? Various videos exist of Paris either doing, or talking about doing, drugs with her sister Nicky, her former boyfriend Jason Shaw, and assorted other people. For a look at some of these videos, visit The Smoking Gun.

Now, why would she lie on national TV, knowing these videos exist?

Enough already, MSNBC newsreader shreds Hilton script on Live TV

paris-hilton-smiling_2263
In a bizarre incidence, a US newsreader refused to read out the news of Paris Hilton’s release from jail and showed her protest by attempting to burn the script live on television.

Mika Brzezinski, co-presenter of MSNBC’s Morning Joe programme, appeared quite uncomfortable when she was asked to read out the story about Paris Hilton’s release from jail ahead of news items on the situation in Iraq. She showed her distaste for Paris’ news by refusing to give it preference over the news on Iraq. Brzezinski, who even tried to burn the script, said:

I hate it and I don’t think it should be our lead. I just don’t believe in covering that story, at least not as the lead story on the newscast, when we have a day like today.

Throughout the programme, Brzezinski was continuously teased by her co-presenters and producers by playing images of Paris being led out of jail, but she was adamant to their demands and ultimately the script was shredded by her.

Brzezinski did her bit by shredding the script, but was her protest justified? I don’t think so. In my opinion, her act turned out as a blessing in disguise for Paris Hilton who walked away with a lot more publicity than she would ever expect from such a show.

Paris Vacations in Hawaii

0628_paris_hawaii_splash.jpg

Some might consider three weeks in the slammer with nothing to do but eat and read a vacation in itself-but not Paris Hilton! TMZ reports that she was spotted arriving in Maui, trying to be incognito in a floppy straw hat and one of Britney Spears’ rejected wigs.

Guess that grueling hour-long interview with Larry King really took its toll on Paris!

Paris vows to never drink and drive

paris-vows-to-never-drink-and-drive_14

Paris Hilton, who narrated her “traumatic” jail experience in a recent interview, vowed that she will never ever in her life drink and drive again.

In a detailed interview to CNN’s Larry King, Paris said that she had never expected to get a jail sentence for driving with a suspended license. However, cheering letters of fans and supporters added to Hilton’s strength through the 23 days long jail sentence, which according to her has changed her life and made her more humble.

Being strip searched in the jail, she believes was the most humiliating experience of her life. The jail food called mystery meat, she adds, was pathetic. In the jail, her fellow inmates were quite nice to her, but Hilton still complains of nightmares of somebody breaking into her cell and hurting her.

Although Miss Hilton says that she will party more sensibly and less frequently, it is a wait and watch for her fans, if she is able to stick to her jail term influenced ideas.

The Interview

paris-hilton-larry-kin.jpg

Scott Collins, of the LA Times shares his take on Paris’ interview with Larry King

Paris Hilton says she doesn’t have a drinking problem, has never taken drugs and doesn’t believe she deserved to be behind bars.

“I think the crime did not fit the punishment,” the hotel heiress told CNN’s Larry King in a taped interview that aired Wednesday night.

Hilton, whose life has become a virtual pop opera, began a quest for image rehabilitation barely 24 hours after she was released from jail in Los Angeles. She had served three weeks for driving on a suspended license following an earlier DUI offense.

ABC and NBC reportedly squared off for bidding rights to her first post-jail interview, but the networks seemed to lose interest after the monetary deal-making became public. That resulted in a promotional windfall for CNN’s “Larry King Live,” which apparently did not have to pay for the sit-down. The network’s strenuous promotion included a countdown clock that ran on “Paula Zahn Now,” the lead-in to King’s show, as well as a lengthy panel postmortem about Hilton on “Anderson Cooper 360.”

On King’s program, the 26-year-old Hilton appeared serious and guarded, speaking in a tone much lower than the breathy, baby-doll register familiar to viewers of her show “The Simple Life.” When King asked what she would like to change about herself, she said she was bothered that her voice became too high-pitched when she was nervous.

Asked why she was doing the interview, Hilton was initially flattered, calling King an “icon.” When pressed, however, she said, “I want to let people know what I went through,” adding that her three-week jail stint was “a really traumatic experience.”

She called jail food “horrible” and dubbed her strip-search “the most humiliating experience of my life.”

She was particularly distressed at not being able to hug her father on Father’s Day and confirmed reports that the mystery illness she suffered in jail — which led to an early release that a judge later reversed — was panic attacks brought on by claustrophobia.

She read King journal entries she had written behind bars that spoke of her confinement as “a turning point.”

But on crucial points, the interview was less than revealing. A spokesperson for the Hilton family has denied that they sought money for a network interview, and King did not press her about this discrepancy. She seemed caught off-guard when asked how she was able to conquer her claustrophobia after she was returned to jail (she meditated and read, she said).

Hilton was vague when asked about fellow party girls Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, saying that some celebrities are “given too much too soon.”

And when King suggested that Hilton could have squelched some of the stories she claims are baseless rumors by denouncing them earlier, the heiress seemed nonplused.

“People make up crazy stories,” she said.

Paris’ Larry King Interview

verthiltonap.jpg

Wanted to post a few thoughts on Paris’ interview on “Larry King Live” on CNN while it’s fresh in my mind.

The bottom line is that I was very unimpressed by the whole thing. First, I heard nothing that hasn’t been reported in other news outlets over the past couple of weeks. Paris talked about how her prison experience has changed her life, about how she wants to do good works and to change her image. However, she still seems very unsure about what direction her good works will take-talking about several different things like working for breast cancer, a transitional home for women getting out of prison, and several other things, but with no definite plan.

When it comes to changing her image, again, she seems to have no definite plans. And, given some of her actions-her hair appointment a few hours after her release to have extensions put back in her hair-and her answer to Larry King about something she really wanted to change in her life (according to her, the way her voice goes up when she becomes stressed or down is a primary concern for her?!)-it doesn’t sound like she’s given a lot of serious thought to actually changing a great deal.

When Larry King lobbed an unexpected question at her, like her favorite Bible passage, she floundered, seemed to be checking her notes, and then said that she didn’t have a favorite. I have to give Larry King his due her, though. He managed to make an hour interview out of brief and uninformative answers.

I think I agreed more with Anderson Cooper following the interview. He was definitely unimpressed with Paris. I was really hoping to see something substantive from Paris. I wasn’t expecting it, but I was hoping. It does seem that Paris may have a future in politics, though. She seems to have a gift for dodging questions and giving vague answers!
